Acceptance into the IALD College of Fellows recognizes the achievements of the designer as an individual — honoring a model architectural lighting designer who has made a significant contribution to the international design/build community. Fellowship also acknowledges outstanding contributions to the IALD as an association.

Induction begins with the nomination of a candidate by at least two IALD voting members.

Eligibility

A nominee must

Be a Professional member of the IALD for a minimum of ten (10) years

Be a member in good standing with the organization

Criteria for acceptance

A candidate will have made a valuable contribution to the profession of lighting design and/or to the IALD in one or more of the following areas:

Service to the Association through elected positions, committees, formal outreach, and in the capacity of speaking for the profession.

Contributions to other lighting-related associations, speaking engagements to peers in the industry including conference and symposium presentations, regulatory work, and other efforts that significantly advance the practice of lighting design and/or public awareness of the profession.

Professional achievement in the art and science of lighting design, as recognized through notable awards, industry publications, public commendation, published works, client testimonials, or similar acknowledgments of accomplishment — across a diverse range of projects or a focused depth of expertise.

Accomplishments in lighting research, teaching, and speaking engagements that reach audiences beyond the lighting industry — as well as contributions to standards development, code writing, or related regulatory activities.

Two (2) nominator agreement forms

Digitally sign and date the nominator agreement at the end of the submission form.

At least three (3) letters of reference

References do not need to be IALD members. Note that letters solely from within the nominee’s own organization are scrutinized carefully.

This deadline is strictly observed — materials received after 24 July will not be reviewed. All completed materials must be submitted via the nomination form to membership@iald.org by 5:00 P.M. Eastern Time.

The Fellows Review Committee is comprised of five (5) members of the IALD Membership Committee and three (3) appointed Fellows. Neither Membership Committee members nor current Fellows may serve as nominators. If a candidate is denied acceptance, they may apply at a later date.
